An Introduction to ORCAS
The Oak Ridge Center for Advanced Studies (ORCAS) is a nonprofit organization operating in Oak Ridge, Tennessee. In its first full year of operation, ORCAS has worked to define new directions in science and technology through policy studies and the promotion of collaboration across sectors and between disciplines. Through the efforts of staff, partner organizations, and interested stakeholders, ORCAS has built a portfolio of completed and ongoing projects that address an array of topics, including energy and economic development in Appalachia, nanotechnology applications in environmental health, K-12 math and science literacy, regional assessment of climate change, and molecular tools for assessing ecosystem and environmental function. ORCAS has also developed a graduate-level summer internship program and an accompanying seminar series.
Looking forward, ORCAS is actively pursuing new collaborative projects and is planning for the future by strengthening its relationships with existing partners and expanding its partnership base.
